Hummus Tehina *VIDEO* (Vegan)
My younger sister loves hummus! And when I say loves hummus, I mean really really loves hummus. So, I started tinkering around with a few different recipes and finally came up with one that is super creamy and delicious!
I love this hummus tehnia recipe. It’s a great way to make a healthy snack that is both affordable and easy. Dried or canned chickpeas work great with this recipe so next time you see them on sale at your grocery store be sure to stock up on them!

Smooth and creamy hummus made from dried chickpeas
Ingredients
- 1 cup dried chickpeas
- 4 cups water
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/3 cup lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2/3 cup tahina (sesame paste)
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin
Instructions
- Add the dried chickpeas, water and 1 teaspoon of baking soda to a bowl, cover with plastic wrap and soak overnight.
- Strain and rinse the chickpeas and add to a pot. Cover with water and boil for 1 hour.
- While waiting for the chickpeas. Blend together the tahina, lemon juice, salt and cumin. Let stand for 10 minutes.
- Strain the cooked chickpeas and blend them into the mixture. Season with salt to taste.
- Serve with olive oil, chopped parsley and paprika as desired.
Notes
Tip #1: You can add another teaspoon of the baking soda to the chickpeas when you boil them to get an extra fluffy hummus.
Tip #2: You can add a little ice water to the tahina mixture while you are blending it and you can strain it if you’d like to make your hummus extra smooth.
