When I lived in New York City, I used to work by “Curry Row.” The smell of Indian spices would fill the air as I made my way into work and always make me crave a delicious curry with some fresh naan!
There aren’t a ton of Indian restaurants in Oro Valley, but I love Saffron Bistro. The food is really authentic and reminds me of my time living in New York. As soon as you enter the restaurant, you are greeted with the exotic aroma of Indian spices! I can’t wait to go back and try so more dishes (maybe even get them a little bit spicier as well!)
Dishes We Loved:
Papadum: This crispy, crunchy cracker made from lentils is the Indian equivalent to bread and olive oil/butter. The papadum at Saffron is really delicious! It comes with two dipping sauces: a sweet mango, tamarind chutney and a cilantro, mint chutney.
Vegetable Samosas: These samosas were perfectly crispy on the outside with a light and fluffy filling. The filling is a mixture of Indian spices, potato, and peas. They have a little bit of heat so before careful if you don’t like spicy food.
Lamb Vindaloo: This is Stan’s go to dish when he eats Indian food. The vindaloo is wonderfully seasoned at Saffron and comes with a healthy portion of lamb and potatoes. The mild version has very little spice to it so if you like a little heat you may want to ask for it medium or hot.
Classic Tandoori Chicken: This is a really fun dish to order. It comes out on a sizzling plate like Mexican fajitas! It is also accompanied with raita (yogurt) dipping sauce. If you want a chicken dish that comes with more of a sauce, I’d recommend getting the chicken tikka masla.
No Indian meal would be complete with basmati rice and naan. We ordered the garlic naan but next time I think we’ll stick with the traditional naan. The raw garlic was a little too much for us (but if you love garlic – this is for you!)
If you’re craving Indian food, don’t hesitate to try Saffron Indian Bistro. You’ll be greeted by a warm, welcoming staff and dine on wonderfully authentic Indian cuisine.
